The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill: Academic Advising

MINORITY PROGRAMS

There are a number of academic year and summer enrichment programs for minority students in and outside of North Carolina. Experiences include academic enrichment, research and internships. Participation in these programs is highly recommended. The principle ones on the UNC campus are:

The Science Enrichment Program (SEP): SEP is an eight-week, honors level, science enrichment program for minority and economically disadvantaged college students (primarily rising sophomores and rising juniors) who want to enter schools of allied health, chiropractic, dentistry, medicine, optometry, osteopathy, pharmacy, podiatry, public health, and veterinary medicine. Students receive more than 150 contact hours in physics, organic chemistry, human physiology, and quanitative skills/biostatistics. Courses in reading speed development and comprehension, effective admissions test taking strategies, and interview and study skills are woven into the curriculum, along with site visits to area health care and biomedical research facilities.
